Six Character Pieces was written in 2007 and then revised in 2012. It's a set of miniatures for euphonium (or low instrument) and piano. The movements vary in length from 1 to 3 minutes, making the entire piece about 8 minutes long. Individual movements or combinations of movements may be done at the performer's discretion.
Each movement is in a different key, time signature, and/or based on a different scale.
The order of the movements was designed to be: Hasidic Cowboy Chase, Japanese Tango Blues, Affable Strolling Guy, Riddle Wrapped in an Enigma, October Love, and Simply Happy. This may be adjusted based on the performer's wishes.
